The starting point
Grischalodge is a hotel in Parpan in the Lenzerheide region. Anyone searching online for cheap accommodation there gets Tripadvisor, Trivago, KAYAK and Migros Ferien. A single hotel doesn't normally compete with these platforms, it pays them a commission instead.
What we did
Booking platforms are unbeatable when it comes to price comparisons, but they're weak on genuine local questions. So we claimed the search queries guests ask before booking, with answers from the perspective of someone who's actually there.
The first post went live two days after the contract started.
- Start. Topic plan geared towards local questions around Lenzerheide.
- The first posts go live, two days after the start.
- The post about cheap accommodation is on page 1 of Google, alongside Tripadvisor, Migros Ferien and Trivago.
- ChatGPT lists Grischalodge as its own recommendation, rating it Budget 9 out of 10.
The result
Two weeks after the first post, Grischalodge's blog post ranked directly above Migros Ferien and KAYAK. In Google's hotel section, the property carries the badge Great deal.
When asked about affordable bike-friendly accommodation in Lenzerheide, ChatGPT gives Grischalodge its own recommendation section, rating it Budget 9 out of 10 and Bike location 7 out of 10.
Two weeks. That's how long it took for a single hotel to stand alongside platforms competing for the same guests with million-franc budgets.
Why this worked
A platform can list a thousand hotels but know none of them. When a guest asks whether the location is good for biking, the hotel has the better answer. It's exactly these kinds of answers that Google and ChatGPT prefer to surface.
